Mission/Vision/Values Statement
Essence Wellness Counseling (EWC) is a group of clinicians offering outpatient mental health services to individuals, couples and families. EWC’s founders Nichelle Lynn-Hennigan and Britni Harris- Richardson have over 15 years’ experience in the mental health field. EWC is dedicated to providing a unique therapeutic experience to our clients. Our mission is to empower clients to create peace, healing and balance using specific tools we will incorporate in session. In our work together, the goal is for clients to live the abundant life they were created to live.
Areas of Focus:
BIPOC, Women, Men, Teens, Couples, Trauma, Domestic Violence
I believe therapy is a collaborative and healing journey. I do not believe in the “one size fits all” philosophy of therapy. Therapy is personal and should be reflective in the treatments used during your time in session.
In therapy the client is the driver, and I am a passenger. The client is in control of the process and I as the counselor can be a guide and offer feedback, but ultimately, the client makes the final decision. The client and I create a goal plan and address their specific concerns. I strive to empower clients, so they leave the process more confident and successful. I believe it is crucial to consider the mind, body, and spirit, on this therapeutic growth process.
I also work hard at making the client feel understood through active listening, reflection of feeling, and accurate empathic understanding. It is important that the client-therapist relationship is strong and healthy. My hope is the client can implement what they have learned in session in their real life. Successful therapy incorporates deep and abiding respect for the client’s uniqueness, integrated with heartfelt emotional and psychological presence, and the proficiency of a wide range of therapeutic skills on the part of the therapist.

Hi, I’m Britni Harris-Richardson– a licensed professional counselor and trauma therapist dedicated to helping individuals heal, grow, and reconnect with their true selves. My work is rooted in the belief that every person carries value and purpose, even when life’s circumstances try to convince us otherwise.
I hold a Master’s degree in Trauma Therapy, a Bachelor’s in Social Work, and I am EMDR-trained. With over a decade of experience, I specialize in working with survivors of trauma, including those impacted by domestic violence, sexual assault, and complex emotional wounds. I also have the privilege of working with military service members and veterans—helping them navigate the emotional impact of service, trauma, transition, and reintegration.
My therapeutic approach is trauma-informed, person-centered, and holistic. I integrate evidence-based modalities like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), EMDR, group therapy, mindfulness practices, and person-centered therapy. Whether we’re unpacking the impact of past experiences or navigating present-day stress, our work together will be guided by compassion, safety, and collaboration.
As a mother of three and someone who values resilience and authenticity, I understand the emotional weight that many carry silently. I’m here to remind you that you don’t have to carry it alone.
If you’re ready to take the next step in your healing journey, I’d be honored to walk beside you.
